200 yards from your apartment, you will enter the Maisons-Laffitte Park, a highly protected domain with large avenues, trees, and old family houses. The architecture of some of them gives a “Belle Epoque” feeling, as they were often vacation houses for wealthy Parisian families by the end of the 19th century. Many artists and writers lived in Maisons-Laffitte, like Jean Cocteau, Jacques de Lacretelle or Roger Martin du Gard.
There are more horses in Maisons-Laffitte than inhabitants, and the local racecourse holds nationwide events. You will see stables, bridle paths and horses all around. If you feel like walking in the forest, you may do so in less than 10 minutes.
To go to Paris, just walk to the station. You may take a RER to La Défense, Charles de Gaulle Etoile, and walk down Champs Elysées in 15 minutes. You may also take a train to Saint Lazare and be in Boulevard Haussmann and Grands Magasins in 20 minutes. If you go on the same RER, you may also go to Disneyland without changing train.
